Specials
Education is more than paper, pencils, and books. A quality education also helps children through the wonderful, yet sometimes challenging, process of growing up. At Nikolaus Homestead, we provide our students with opportunities to explore new realms in learning, experience the arts, and develop their own interests and talents.
Band and Orchestra
Fifth grade students learn how to play an instrument and perform as an ensemble in our band and orchestra programs. You will be amazed at how quickly they learn and improve when you see them perform and participate in concerts during the school year.
Music
Music class teaches students to appreciate the global language of music. From great composers to modern masters to the latest pop sensations, they learn the art of the melody, the rules of rhythm, and the power of the voice.
Fifth grade students may elect to participate in the band or orchestra (strings) program. Students meet twice weekly for 45 minutes.
Physical Education
When you’re a growing kid, getting exercise is a key component to developing a healthy lifestyle and strengthening the body. As students participate in team and individual sports, they also learn important life skills such as sportsmanship, leadership, strategizing, and how to follow the rules.
Library
The library can be a portal to unknown worlds, a quiet refuge, or a place to find answers. The library represents a place where students learn safe Internet protocol to find and access information online, utilize our subscription knowledge bases, or get book recommendations to take them wherever they want to go.
Become a member of the Dragon Alliance when you ace five Accelerated Reader tests in a row, or read a million words to join the ranks of our elite Millionaires Club.
Camp Friendly Pines
Camp Friendly Pines provides fifth grade students a unique scientific learning experience. Over several days in the beautiful pine forest, we learn about nature and its effect on mankind. Students witness the ecologic processes and interact with plant and animal life. They gain understanding of the fragility of our environment while learning the importance of protecting and nurturing our resources.
Special Education
We don’t all learn the same way at the same time. We provide accommodations and classes tailored to our students who require special services. Our district Special Education page provides details about our program.
